Each of these forms has its own repertoire, rhythm system and vocabulary of gesture. Students commit to one form and stay with one guru — progress in classical dance comes from depth, not breadth.
Dance styles
Bharatanatyam
Tamil Nadu. Geometric lines, strong adavus and expressive abhinaya.
Kuchipudi
Andhra Pradesh. Fluid, dramatic, traditionally narrative.
Kathak
North India. Spins, intricate footwork and rhythmic improvisation.
Odissi
Odisha. Sculptural poses and the characteristic tribhangi stance.
Mohiniyattam
Kerala. Slow, graceful, built on the lasya aesthetic.
How we choose your guru
What we require before anyone teaches a classical form here
Trained in the form they teach
Bharatanatyam is taught by Bharatanatyam-trained gurus, Kathak by Kathak-trained gurus. No one teaches across forms they did not train in — the vocabularies are not interchangeable.
Performed, and still performing
We look for gurus with their own performance history, including an Arangetram where the tradition expects one, and who still perform.
Willing to be slow
Foundation years are repetitive by design. We turn down teachers who want to rush students to choreography before the adavus are right.
Background checked
Every guru teaching minors completes a background check and safeguarding briefing.
Certification programs
Foundation (Years 1–2)
Adavus, basic rhythm and posture. Assessed annually.
Intermediate (Years 3–5)
Repertoire items, abhinaya and music theory.
Advanced (Years 6+)
Full-length items and independent practice.
Graded examinations
Optional external examinations, prepared for in class.
Arangetram preparation
The debut, and the two years before it
An Arangetram is a full solo recital, usually two hours, and it is prepared over eighteen months to two years: repertoire selection, live-orchestra rehearsals, stamina work, costume and stage logistics. We take students through it only when the guru judges them ready — never on a calendar deadline.
